I had my first child in medical school. I was constantly stressed being a new mom and student. Running became my outlet for all my emotions . If I could get outside and get my heart rate up for at least 15 minutes, I felt like a new person. I felt more confident and energized to take on very challenging days. I have four kids now, and they have spent many miles in the jogging stroller with me. As a momma doc, I do not have free time to waste, and I have terrible guilt leaving the kids to work.
Going on long solo runs used to make me feel more guilty, though I think my whole family recognizes I am a better person, mentally and physically, when I get my runs done.I recently took on marathon training last year, and I have now run three of them! RW+ helped me with training plans, nutrition, strength exercises and equipment. It has been invaluable.I run because I know I will always feel better afterwards. It’s not about how fast I go or if I am going to PR each race or training session.
