Hawkins is hoping to crack the Roughriders roster with a big performance in Saturday's pre-season game.
Hawkins returned to the Cardinals for the 2020 season and once again led the team in rushing that year, before declaring eligible for the 2021 NFL Draft. After going undrafted, he signed with the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent. After four months in Atlanta, he was cut by the Falcons, before signing with the Tennessee Titans.
Hawkins then weighed his options on where to go next. He was fielding offers from the XFL but also had interest from the Roughriders. And one day before last November’s XFL Draft, he opted to make his way to Saskatchewan, officially signing a CFL contract on Nov. 10, less than two weeks after the Riders concluded their season.Article content
Fast forward to training camp in 2023 and Hawkins is currently in Saskatoon with the Riders. He impressed coaches during rookie camp, earning him an extra stay for main training camp. He continued his strong performance during main camp, despite missing a few days with an ankle injury. However, Hawkins looks good to go for Saturday’s pre-season game as the Riders host the B.C. Lions at Mosaic Stadium .
