BREAKING | Ron DeSantis just signed one of the country’s most restrictive abortion bans into law.
Ron DeSantis signed one of the country’s most restrictive abortion bans into law on Thursday after Republicans used their supermajority in the House of Representatives to fast-track the process. DeSantis tweeted a photo on Thursday night showing the Florida governor signing the bill while surrounded by supporters.
The bill, which bans abortions after just six weeks—before most women even know they’re pregnant—was passed earlier Thursday in the state House. “We are proud to support life and family in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said in a statement. “I applaud the legislature for passing the Heartbeat Protection Act that expands pro-life protections and provides additional resources for young mothers and families.
