Mayor-elect Matthew Shoemaker says he is looking forward to resetting the municipality’s relationship with the Sault’s provincial government representative when he takes office later this month.
Romano said the quote by the mayor is a misrepresentation, especially when it comes to the question of the operating funds. In contrast, the $350,000 in the mayor’s quote is in reference to the $343,000 in new operational funds announced last year for the Residential Withdrawal Management Services, which is currently under construction on Old Garden River Road in the former Sault Star building.
Shoemaker promised during his campaign to champion the opening of a supervised consumption site in Sault Ste. Marie. One of his earliest meetings prior to drafting his platform was with Desiree Beck, executive director of Willow Addiction Support Services.
