The committee will meet at least two times before the end of the month

It will review the causes of the outage as well as the impacts it “had on Canadian families, consumers and businesses, including but not limited to, the health care, law enforcement and financial sectors,” the motion stated.

The Parliamentary committee meetings may be the only chance Canadians have to see Rogers publicly testify about what happened. While the CRTC has written to Rogers to give the company until July 22 to answer detailed questions, it’s unclear whether the regulator will hold a public hearing on the matter.

The group said it believes the outage may have not only affected deaf, deaf-blind, and hard of hearing Canadians but also “hearing adults, and seniors who depend on wireless connections for personal safety,” such as those who have devices with fall-detection features or diabetics who rely on glucose sensor alerts connected to smartphones.
