Rogers Services Restored After Fibre Cut Vandalism in Waterloo and St. Jacobs
Rogers, Waterloo, St. Jacobs

Rogers restored TV, internet and home phone services after vandals cut a fibre line in Waterloo and St. Jacobs. The outage affected customers until before 4 p.m. Saturday.

Rogers customers in parts of Waterloo and St. Jacobs experienced service disruptions on Saturday after what the company described as a fibre cut caused by vandalism. The outage affected television, internet and home phone services, according to Rogers outage information. All Rogers services were restored before 4 p.m.

The affected area included parts of north Waterloo and the St. Jacobs area. The fibre cut occurred just before midnight, according to a company statement. The incident disrupted connectivity for residents and businesses in those communities.

Rogers Fibre Cut Disrupts Services

Rogers said vandals intentionally cut a fibre line just before midnight, causing a service interruption to internet, TV and home phone for some customers in parts of North Waterloo and parts of St. Jacobs. The company said it worked with local police and its crews worked around the clock to repair the damage and restore services.

Some customers started coming back online around 10 a.m., and service was fully restored by mid-afternoon. The outage lasted several hours but was resolved before 4 p.m., according to Rogers.

In an email statement, Rogers said it is seeing a troubling rise in vandalism to network infrastructure across the country, similar to other providers. The company said these acts cause service interruptions and affect Canadians who rely on networks to stay connected.

Vandalism Impact on Public Safety

Rogers said the vandalism is more than a significant inconvenience for customers and businesses. The company noted that such acts can have a serious impact on public safety.

The fibre cut in Waterloo and St. Jacobs is part of what Rogers describes as a broader pattern of vandalism targeting network infrastructure nationwide. The company said it is cooperating with local police.

CTV News contacted Waterloo Regional Police for information about any related investigation. No further details were immediately available.

Ongoing Investigation and Restoration

Rogers emphasized that its crews responded quickly to repair the damage. The company said it is working with local police and that service was fully restored by mid-afternoon on Saturday.

The outage affected television, internet and home phone services for customers in parts of north Waterloo and the St. Jacobs area. Rogers has not released additional information about the investigation or potential suspects.

The incident highlights the vulnerability of critical telecommunications infrastructure to vandalism. Rogers has called for increased awareness of the issue, noting that such acts can disrupt essential services and public safety.
