A historic archive from the landmark Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade is being auctioned Friday. The archive belongs to Dallas attorney Linda Coffee, who filed the lawsuit in Texas in 1970.WASHINGTON – An archive detailing the journey to securing abortion rights through Roe vs. Wade has sold at auction for $615,633 .
The buyer, who wishes to remain anonymous according to the auction house, now owns the original affidavit signed byIt also includes a letter from Coffee to her co-counsel“Would you consider being co-counsel in the event that a suit is actually filed. I have always found that it is a great deal more fun to work with someone on a lawsuit of this nature,’’ Coffee wrote in the 1969 letter.
A Los Angeles auction house, Nate D. Sanders Auctions, announced the sale Monday. The auction concluded Friday. McCorvey was 22 and unmarried in 1969 when she began the legal fight to obtain an abortion. She died in 2017 after a change of heart that led her to join forces with groups fighting to overturn the ruling that bore her pseudonym.
