Rockets not superstitious — well, mostly — about this year’s NBA draft lottery

With the No. 2 overall pick they procured in last year’s draft lottery, the Rockets selected Jalen Green, right, as was announced by NBA commissioner Adam Silver on July 29.Rockets coach Stephen Silas will not be rubbing a trusty rabbit’s foot.

And at least one part of last season’s routine will be duplicated — perhaps as a nod to the gods of the lottery — when the actual enterprise takes place behind the closed doors of the drawing room in Chicago. Rockets general counsel Clay Allen will be armed with the piece of team history he had reason to believe worked its magic a year ago.

The team, league and media reps in the room are barred from sharing the results so that the representatives on stage for the made-for-television unveiling react with no knowledge of what already has been determined.
