MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Rockets were bullied, pushed around like the JV in one of those practices when the kids inexplicably give the varsity trouble it did not want and were made to pay for it.
They clinched their playoff spot their way, and then added a dazzling shooting display to mark the celebration. “We weren’t physical with them; they were physical with us,” Rockets coach Stephen Silas said. “We knew the physicality was going to be the No. 1 thing when it came to this game, and we were just letting them run around wherever they wanted. Obviously, Kennard got going, and we were late. We were a step late on that.”
“One hundred percent, 100 percent,” Silas said. “Every time we go to the paint, it was ‘Oh, I can’t believe I didn’t get a foul call.’ The more you do that, the more the referees aren’t going to give you any calls. You have to play through that physicality and play through those things so then they will give you the benefit of the doubt.
