Rockets fans react as the Rockets took Jabari Smith Jr. as their first pick in the draft during the Houston Rockets' 2022 NBA draft watch party at POST Houston on Thursday, June 23, 2022 in Houston.The Rockets did not know how the draft, beginning with its first pick, would unfold. There was no heads up, no clue that the Orlando Magic would choose Paolo Banchero with the first pick, a move that after Chet Holmgren went second, made Jabari Smith Jr.
“I'm really excited about the draft,” Stone said. “I think we're going to bring in really, really talented players. I said that a month ago or whatever, when I had no idea who we were drafting. I now know who we were drafting. And I'm doubly as excited. This has been a really, really good night.” The players he could discuss, however, shared unusual length and agility with a determination to use those qualities defensively.
