2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremoniesLOS ANGELES – During his poignant Rock & Roll Hall of Fame speech, 2022 inductee Lionel Richie proclaimed, “rock and roll is not a color. It’s a feeling and a vibe.”
“Cool sophisticated fun. You know who’s got that in spades? Duran Duran,” said Robert Downey Jr., presenting the first inductee of the night. “They own that space and they have for over 40 years.” Le Bon read an open letter from former bandmember Andy Taylor, who could not attend the ceremony as he battles prostate cancer. Taylor wrote that he was “very proud” and “sure as hell glad I’m around to see this day.”
“Just standing here I gotta be the luckiest guy in the world,” Lewis said. “I just had Janet Jackson induct me into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. How about that?” The members of Judas Priest may have been disappointed they weren’t inducted in the main Performers category . But the band performed like headliners, especially frontman Rob Halford, who led a heavy metal medley of “You Got Another Thing Coming,” “Breaking the Law” and “Living After Midnight” with his signature screams.
“More than anything we have to thank Eurythmics fans without whom we wouldn’t be standing here,” Lennox said. “We spread love around the world. Not hatred or division. We musicians bring people together, in joy, in sadness, in movement, beauty, inspiration and reflection.”. Sara Bareilles paid tribute to Simon with an elegant version of “Nobody Does It Better.
