Flatt founded the company almost 40 years ago. She is also the daughter of the late Paul Baker, who founded Dallas Theater Center and played a key role in the history of Booker T. high school.
Flatt plans to divert her attention to the Baker Idea Institute, a DCT initiative named in honor of her late father, who died in 2009 at the age of 98, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in the history of the arts in Texas and in the country at large.served as the founding artistic director of Booker T. Kevin Moriarty, the artistic director of Dallas Theater Center, said in a statement that Flatt is “one of the most consequential theater makers in the history of Dallas. As an artist, educator, and arts leader, she has transformed the theatrical landscape of Dallas for more than six decades. Even in the wake of a global pandemic, Flatt said she’s proud of having 27 full-time staff members, 75 part-time employees and 39 seasonal employees. Flatt said the company has served “more than 5 million children and families” during its tenure.
Society should, Flatt said, “honor the intelligence of children. We should respect it. We should give them a way to wade through whatever it is going on in the world that none of us can understand.”
