The BC NDP and Conservatives sparred over reproductive rights and the economy on Tuesday as the provincial election campaign grows nearer.

NDP leader David Eby used the first U.S. presidential election debate to try and link Donald Trump to BC Conservative leader John Rustad on the issues of abortion, birth control and women’s rights.

“Will that leader fund free birth control? Probably not. Will that leader fund the morning-after pill for free? Probably not. Will that leader ensure that access to abortion is provided across the province where women need that service? Probably not.” Rustad quickly took to social media to refute the accusations and accuse the NDP of using cheap campaign tricks to distract voters from real issues.

Several prominent Victoria businesses have closed in recent weeks, citing rising commercial rents, crime, vandalism, taxes and employee costs.
