Five takeaways as UTSA beat North Texas 31-27 for coach Jeff Traylor’s 200th career win...
UTSA quarterback Frank Harris drops back to pass during the NCAA Conference USA football game against North Texas Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. As UTSA coach Jeff Traylor arrived for his postgame news conference, he draped an orange towel with a black cross and the initials “MC” over the front of the table, holding it in place with the game ball.
Traylor spoke of Camp’s fight at halftime that night, and he told UTSA’s players a similar story at the team’s devotion meeting Friday, recalling Camp’s drive to commentate that one final game 13 years ago. Left in one-on-one matchups most of the day, UTSA’s secondary held North Texas quarterback Austin Aune to 15-of-31 passing, though four plays of more than 40 yards allowed him to amass 325 total.
“It’s unbelievable what those kids keep doing,” Traylor said. “The moment I want to poke my head up and go, ‘Here we come,’ it's like whack, whack, whack, whack, there goes somebody else down on my line, and that's just hard.”Even with just three points at halftime, Traylor could sense the North Texas defense tiring, as UTSA had run 47 plays for 207 total yards.
