Vincent Jean, 56, faces attempted murder and related charges for an attack that left a 23-year-old woman critically injured, authorities say.
A driver was arrested on charges of repeatedly running over a woman with his SUV in a road rage attack after a minor crash in Elizabeth, New Jersey, authorities said Wednesday.
Officers rushed to a report of a pedestrian struck around 8:30 a.m. and found the woman lying on the front lawn of a residence on Salem Avenue, near Aberdeen Road, authorities said. “At that point, the suspect drove his car directly at the victim and she began to run onto the lawn to avoid being struck,” the prosecutor and police said in a statement. “The suspect drove onto the lawn and struck the victim, then drove over her before backing up and deliberately running her over a second time.”
News of the assault spread on social media along with graphic images of the crime. A prosecutor’s office spokesman, Assistant Prosecutor Mike Sheets, said rumors of the incident being a hate crime were false.
