A 38-year-old man is in custody following a barricaded person incident on Prospero Place in St. John’s.
Around 8:20 p.m. Thursday, police were called to a home on Prospero Place, where a person had barricaded themselves inside.Negotiators made contact with the individual, keeping the line until 8:40 a.m. Friday morning, when the individual was taken into custody without incident by the tactical unit. The man is facing charges of being unlawfully in dwelling house, assault, uttering threats, mischief and breaches of court orders. He is being held for court.A nearly six-hour standoff in the west end of St. John’s has been resolved peacefully.
However, the RNC say residents can expect a continued police presence in the neighbourhood for some time today.They blocked access to the street, just west of Columbus Drive and off Old Penneywell Road, as they negotiated with a person in the home.It’s not clear what, if any charges are pending in the matter.
