The title was achieved with Lillian Macaruso and Alexandra Anderson as driver and co-driver, both of whom are employees at Rivian. Macaruso is a special projects engineer, and Anderson works as a senior mechanical engineer. GPS and other digital navigation technologies are not an option for drivers during the rally. Instead, in order to navigate the route, drivers and navigators must rely on compasses, paper maps, and plotters. The rally tests the capabilities of the team and their vehicles over a duration of eight days.Rivian has been a part of the rally since 2020, entering with a prototype truck. In 2023, apart from its official entry, the rally also included the participation of its first customer team.
Rivian R1T-racing teams finished in first, eleventh, twentieth, and thirtieth positions. It's interesting to note that a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe finished in second position, just 36 points behind the Rivian squad. Third and fourth on the list were Ford Bronco Raptor and Toyota 4Runner. The win against established off-roaders clearly is a feather in the hat of Rivian and EVs.
