The family of Rick (John Richard) Fraser sadly announces his passing on January 5th, 2025, at the age of 71. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Louise, as he peacefully departed after years of battling heart failure . Rick was born in Ottawa, Ontario, to Rita Kavanagh and Barrie Fraser. He spent his formative years on the family farm in Richmond, Ontario.
In 1979, Rick and Louise embarked on a new chapter, relocating to Thunder Bay, where Rick's career in water well drilling thrived for many years. The couple raised their five children, Philip, Kelly, Benjamin, Cynthia, and Richard, primarily in Pass Lake, Crystal Beach, before settling into retirement in the Current River area. \Rick leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his beloved wife, Louise, and their five children, their spouses, and a large, extended family. He was adored by his twenty grandchildren, Stephanie, Sam, Kyle, Christopher, Christa, Ashley, Emily, Teagan, Killian, Brayden, Isabella, Amber, Abbigail, Natasha, and Hayden. He also leaves behind four and a half beautiful great-granddaughters, Skyla, Shea, Annabella, and Scarlett, with another baby Fraser on the way. \Rick found joy in every season, spending his time tending to his garden, enjoying the outdoors, and most importantly, being surrounded by his family. He instilled in his loved ones the values of hard work, kindness, and generosity. Rick was a master storyteller, a devoted cribbage player, and always up for a coffee run with friends and family. His infectious laughter and quick wit brought light to every occasion. His warmth, humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The Fraser family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the paramedics, emergency team at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, Dr. Nigro, and the heart team in London, Ontario, for their compassionate care and support throughout Rick's journey. Cremation has taken place through Simpler Times. A celebration of Rick's life will be held at West Thunder Community Centre on Sunday, February 16th, 2025, from 1-4pm. Memorial donations can be made in Rick's name to the Thunder Bay Heart Foundation at Regional Health Science Centre.
