INDIANAPOLIS — For the second time this month, Richard Allen is scheduled to appear in court for a hearing in the case against him for the murders of Libby German and Abby Williams.
Tueday's hearing in Carroll County is the second of two hearings scheduled for October. The first was a hearing in Allen County on Oct. 19 that ended abruptly with Special Judge Fran Gull announcing the withdrawal of Allen's defense attorneys Brad Rozzi and Andrew Baldwin. Since that hearing, numerous filings have been made by the court and former defense attorneys — including motions filed just before the start of Tuesday's hearing.
Rozzi and Baldwin, having been marked as withdrawn by Gull, have filed to be Allen's counsel pro bono . Judge Gull denied their request to Allen. She cited gross negligence for her reasoning. Allen's new defense attorneys, Robert Scremin and William Lebrato, filed to have the jury trial scheduled for January 2024 be moved to a new date as well. Scremin and Lebrato cited it being impossible to be ready by January, partly due to not receiving past discovery in the case yet.
