Rex Murphy: Curious and curiouser — Kielburger brothers\u0027 testimony raises even more questions
My impression was that they possess, far too much, the ready fluency of the TV pitchmen. Watching the show I was reminded of those Sunday morning TV gospellers of years past. And for that matter some of the more polished practitioners of today’s big religion, some of the prosperity preachers. Think of Joel Osteen. Smooth, forced charm, locked-in smile. I’m hardly alone in seeing their refusal to answer Pierre Poilievre’s four-times-repeated question whether they had hired private investigators to surveil reporters almost eerie.
Imagine, representatives of the Parliament of Canada, trying to exercise some accountability over nearly a billion dollars, had the sheer gall to steal four whole hours of the precious Kielburgers’ time. Nasty MPs. Even more nasty, Pierre Poilievre. Didn’t work. The refusal to answer was an answer. I’ve noticed something of the same kind of thing at the local supermarket. When I buy a steak — I do like a steak now and then — the meat is free, but oh Lord, do they ever lay on the charges for the paper it’s wrapped in. Twenty bucks, minimum. Article content continued
