Canada was built by people with backbone, who stood up to and overcame adversity. Canadians should show some strength, support each other and rebuild a prosperous, independent country.: In the long run, it’s clear that all the pieces of the post-office puzzle need to be, if you will, resorted . But in the short run, something should be done immediately.
Small businesses are forced into layoffs and financial instability; the mail-order industry is shut down; payment cheques cannot be mailed; consumers are paying higher delivery rates; now courier companies are refusing parcels because of backlogs. I have long thought that Canada Post should divest itself of holdings in parcel delivery companies, thus returning profit to offset our huge national deficit. It should focus on letter delivery only, thereby reducing the number of employees and also saving public money.: A letter-writer thinks the future of oil is known and that big thinkers in pension land are acting accordingly. I think not.
The Industrial Revolution led to where we are now, enjoying remarkable freedom of movement with cars and air travel, and comfortable accommodation, especially in winter, with fossil fuel heating. I lived in Nova Scotia for 17 years and experienced several power outages. But one of the best investments I made was to get electric heat pumps for my three-storey Victorian home. They cut my annual heating costs by two-thirds.
