At 7:59 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, the Crystal Pool voting polls will close at all 10 voting locations across Victoria.
Just after 10 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, the final votes were counted, with 58.71 per cent of voters in favour of the City of Victoria borrowing up to $168.9 million to build a new pool and 41.29 per cent voted against the borrowing.
As for the choice location, 60.57 per cent of the votes went to Central Park North and 39.43 per cent to Central Park South. The first question was binding, meaning the city’s next actions would be based on the majority vote. The second question on locations was non-binding. However, there was an overwhelming number in favour of Central North Park as the choice location.The Crystal Pool referendum saw low turnout of voters. Of the 73,409 eligible voters, less than one quarter participated in the referendum.
The City of Victoria expects voting results to come in at 8 p.m. with final results counted within the hour. Results will be posted here as they become available. Before polls closed, CHEK News reporter, Tchadas Leo caught up with some of the voters and city councillors at the different locations today.
