Record View asks: Has anyone heard of the nobodies who walked out of their well-padded Ministerial offices on Wednesday?
One of the reasons the Tories hesitated in moving against Boris Johnson earlier is that they feared there was no obvious successor. It is ironic that it has taken the resignation of more than 30 Ministers to prove the paucity of talent hidden in Johnson’s government.
What’s a few million quid of difference between chancellors who will never have a feel for the inflation-laden challenges facing low-earners? The resignation statement of Health Secretary Sajid Javid may have carried emotional weight – because he knows he is unlikely to reach high office again – but it did not have the political punch to knock out the Prime Minister.
It was only when the sewage of sexual scandal threatened to overwhelm their majorities that they found reason to move. Even then they appear to be an uncoordinated rabble ready to fight a pitched battle among themselves while the “greased piglet” makes his escape.
