Seventeen residents were evacuated from the Golden Vista Seniors Complex in Shea Heights following a fire this morning.Acting Platoon Chief Gerry O’Neill says firefighters quickly quelled the blaze, but power was cut as the dozen units were evacuated.
He says they had to bang on every door because residents hear alarms go off so often that not everyone listens to them. O’Neill says the fire began in the electrical room. There was some smoke and water damage to the facility, but the full extent is not known at the time.Updating figure to 17 people displaced.
