Unstable ice conditions in popular walking areas like Alona Bay, Sawpit Bay, and Amethyst Harbour could pose risks to families looking to get outside on the Family Day weekend

To help ensure families stay safe this Family Day weekend, one resident is urging folks heading out on the Superior shore to remain cautious of unstable ice castles.The usual ice castles are forming on the Superior shore this week. Areas like Sawpit Bay and Amethyst harbour are popular spots for roaming on the ice on Family Day. Of course, these are always slippery, tricky places to walk, but I think it should be publicized that they are extraordinarily unsafe this year.

A very unsafe year to be out on those ice castles. They look big and imposing but they have truly just formed and may collapse without warning. Below is a video Keating sent in. The first part shows Alona Bay on Friday afternoon, and the second part shows Alona Bay on Saturday.
