First responders rescued four people who were on a capsizing sailboat off the coast of Sandy Hook early Sunday morning, officials said.
The U.S. Coast Guard Sector command center in New York received a 1 a.m. distress call from a sailboat named Eagle, reporting the vessel had run aground and was capsizing, theFirst responders went to search for Eagle, which they found at about 2 a.m., officials said. All four boaters were clinging to the hull, which had overturned, the Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard’s Sandy Hook station rescued two boaters while the New York Fire Department rescued the other two. All were wearing life jackets. The boaters are being treated for injuries at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. The Coast Guard did not further identify the boaters, or their route in the water.
