The food quality at Cuyahoga County jail is causing a domino effect.

, has covered the state of the jail’s dietary conditions extensively. The evidence is in, and yet, County Executive Chris Ronayne has not taken action.when running for County Executive included his belief that “a true measure of a society’s moral character is the way that we treat those accused of committing crimes, in this case those in the County jail awaiting their chance at a fair trial.”

Whoa now. Something smells really bad, and it’s not just the meat-like substances on dirty dinner trays coming out of the jail kitchen. To add insult to injury, Keefe just increased prices, which is within the power bestowed upon them through their contract with the county. Hungry inmates can be angry inmates. Angry inmates jeopardize the safety and security of all who are in the building.

Cuyahoga County Council has tried to put effort into this mess. A member visited the jail and witnessed the “absolutely terrible” food during a tour last year. When it was time to issue a request for proposals for food service, Council requested the Budish administration require service history and self assessment be included in the proposals.
