The NFL has cancelled the Hall of Fame game and Hall of Fame induction ceremony, both scheduled for early August, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ESPN’sThese are the first events the NFL has cancelled outright since the pandemic shut down the entire sports world in mid-March.

The Hall of Fame game, which annually kicks off the pre-season, was to be played between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 6 in Canton, Ohio. The ceremony to induct the Class of 2020 into the Hall of Fame was scheduled to follow on Aug. 8. According to Schefter, the Cowboys and Steelers will meet in next season’s Hall of Fame game and the Class of 2020 will be inducted in a ceremony in 2021.

The Cowboys and Steelers were scheduled to report to training camp on July 22, six days before the rest of the league, but that start date will be pushed back now that the Hall of Fame game is off, Schefter adds.
