through the 2025 season with a new three-year contract extension worth up to $71 million in new money. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that McLaurin’s extension — which will kick in in 2023 when the final year of his rookie contract expires — includes a $28 million signing bonus, the largest ever given to a player at his position.
McLaurin, 26, has spent the last three seasons with the Commanders after being selected in the third-round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Last season he started every game for the first time, recording 1,053 yards and catching five touchdowns. The extension continues a trend of receivers getting big contracts this off-season. Earlier this month Rams star Cooper Kupp signed an extension worth $75 million in guaranteed money while Tyreek Adams and Jamal Adams each signed extensions worth more than $120 million after being acquired in trades.
