Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene filed a motion to oust Speaker of the House Mike Johnson over the spending bill the House passed.“There’s not a time limit on this, it doesn’t have to be forced… But I’m not saying that it won’t happen in two weeks, or it won’t happen,” Greene added.
The bills being voted on Friday would approve funding for the Defense Department and several other federal agencies for the rest of fiscal 2024, wrapping up a drawn-out, contentious process that has brought the federal government to the brink of a shutdown several times since late last year. The fight exposed deep fault lines within the Republican Party and contributed to the ouster of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy last year.
Some Republican members protested what they called irresponsible spending levels and complained they were given too little time to read the 1,012-page text of the bills. I cannot believe how terrified these cowards are of letting dems shut down the government. It’s crazy. The government SHOULD shut down for a bit … to give people a little perspective and to let the country have a rest for a bit.
