Rep. Maxine Dexter's (D-Ore.) expletive-laden outburst against former President Trump at a rally for federal workers has sparked debate. Dexter, speaking at an American Federation of Government Employees' rally on February 6th, followed Rep. Donald Norcross (D-N.J.), who concluded his speech with a similar declaration. Dexter, with limited time to speak, exclaimed, “We have to fuck Trump.” This incident occurred amidst growing concerns about billionaire Elon Musk's influence in government. Dexter introduced the Stop Musk Act, aiming to protect federal employees from retaliation by Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk's recent access to sensitive Treasury Department data, subsequently blocked by a federal judge, has fueled these concerns.

Rep. Maxine Dexter (D-Ore.) spoke during a news conference with the Congressional Progressive Caucus to oppose Elon Musk gaining access to the Treasury Department's federal payment system on February 6th. Lawmakers addressed federal workers , union members and labor activists at the American Federation of Government Employees’ rally on the U.S. Capitol grounds, urging Congress to protect civil service jobs and push back on politicizing federal jobs.

Several lawmakers spoke at the rally, including Rep. Donald Norcross (D-N.J.), who spoke before Dexter. He concluded his brief speech by declaring, “Fuck Trump.”Dexter followed Norcross, stating that there was “absolutely no way” she could follow “that mic-drop” moment from Norcross. With only 30 seconds to speak, Dexter exclaimed that “we have to fuck Trump.” In a comment to HuffPost, Dexter said, “I said at the outset I don’t swear well in public. My only wish is I said it with more conviction.”Dexter then went on to speak about the Stop Musk Act, which she introduced last week as her first bill since taking office in January. She stated that the bill aims to protect federal employees from retaliation “for preventing, resisting and circumventing Elon Musk’s unlawful actions.” Billionaire Elon Musk has recently taken control of the government through his non-Cabinet department, the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, which seeks to cut government spending. Last week, DOGE accessed sensitive data in the Treasury Department. The access was subsequently blocked by a federal judge, but Musk and Trump have defended Musk’s role in the government. On Tuesday, Musk, who has not been elected to office by Americans, spoke from the Oval Office and said, “The people voted for major government reform and that’s what the people are going to get,” and “That’s what democracy is all about.
