Over $110 Million in funding has been secured for a new, high-speed buss route passing through San Antonio . Congressman Henry Cuellar has secured $110 million in funding for a rapid transit route reaching from the airport through Southtown.

This route is set to connect tourists to a number of destinations throughout the city and connect workers and students to jobs and schools with affordable, reliable, and rapid transportation. “Quality transportation infrastructure is key to growth and a high quality of life in our community," said Representative Cullear. "I secured these federal dollars to ensure my constituents in the Southside have reliable transportation to and from San Antonio’s key destinations, including San Antonio International Airport and VIA Metro Center. Ultimately, VIA’s North/South Corridor Project will help keep San Antonio connected.

The route will connect stops at San Antonio International Airport, all the way to Steves Avenue on the Southside, with stops at San Antonio College, VIA Metro Center, Baptist Medical Center, Downtown, and Southtown San Antonio. San Antonio is experiencing a time of rapid growth, reaching over 2 million residents in 2020, and projected to reach 3 million by 2040. This rapid expansion is projected to increase travel times by 82%. This project aims to mitigate that impact.
