NEW WATERFORD, N.S. — Jessica Kelly misses shopping with her younger sister, Madison.
This year the New Waterford teen, who was living in Glace Bay at the time of her death, would have been graduating from high school and busy shopping for prom dresses, shoes, accessories.
"I hope these bursaries will help the grads have a bit of money in their pocket towards college or to pay for prom or something."Maddie was 16 when she lost her life in an apartment fire. Her 15-year-old friend Brea also didn't survive the fire and her mother Lauren was sent to hospital with severe injuries, including burns all over her body.
"She told you right where to go and how to get there if you did something wrong," Jessica said, with a small laugh."She definitely wasn't quiet and she always would pick-up for people. If anyone was bullying someone, she'd stand up to the bullies and tell them to leave them alone." "When Jessica brought the idea forward, I thought it was a great way to keep Maddies memory alive. She was very selfless, always worried about others and how she could help anyone in need."Loved: Shopping, hanging with her sister and friendsBursaries
