Supporters encouraged to get organized for the virtual event, which takes place Sept. 25

Organizers are already planning this year's annual Kidney Walk, which is taking place in Sudbury and all over Canada Sept. 25.

As in the past two years, the walk this year will take place in a virtual format. Friends and supporters will be encouraged to get out in their local communities for an actual walk and to collect pledges and donations in support of the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Participants will be encouraged to raise funds via social media, family groups and by holding small group raffles or 50/50 draws or even a yard sale. The Kidney Foundation of Canada said although the walk looks different, the reason for the walk remains the same: "to show loved ones that we support them and we’ve got their backs!"

The Kidney Walk brings together dialysis patients, transplant recipients, medical professionals and volunteers for the common purpose of promoting awareness of kidney health and organ donation and creating a better tomorrow for friends and neighbours living with kidney disease. Funds raised at the event support world-class kidney research, education and support programs for individuals living with kidney disease, said the foundation.

The Kidney Foundation in Canada has donated more than $4 million for kidney research, has provided short-term financial assistance to more than 2,900 people and has donated more than 100,000 in summer camp subsidies.
