The latest gaming smartphone from Nubia offers more cooling, more power, and more software controls. Is that enough to give mobile gamers an edge?

Yes, Android can be holistic and everything is built into your home screen, with the notifications and quick settings just a pull-down away. But RedMagic's appropriately coloured red switch pulls you into a launcher designed for the sort of gaming that this phone cries out for. It runs in landscape mode so feels very handheld console . It’s far more graphically rich than your regular Android launcher, and offers easy access to some of the key features of the device.

That said RedMagic has made this easier by offering a “low / medium / high” quick toggle in the gaming menu which you can subsequently refine to what you need. Its made even easier by the ability to do the changes on the fly, as RedMagic’ gaming launcher allows you to slide in a focused gaming panel from the edges of the screen while playing to change all your settings.

A number of titles have been optimised for the RedMagic platform, and these are some of the most graphically rich games for Android; EA’s Real Racing, Gameloft’s Asphallt 9 Legends, Blayze Games’ Bullet Force, Super Evil Megacopr’s Vainglory, and miHoYo’s Genshin Impact look absolutely gorgeous on the RedMagic 7.

On the battery front, you have 65W charging out of the box for the battery, although at 4500 mAh the battery feels under capacity.
