The Ottawa Redblacks have signed wide receiver Eugene Lewis, who had an impressive season with the Edmonton Elks in 2023. Meanwhile, the team bid farewell to Jaelon Acklin, who announced his retirement after five seasons in the CFL.

The Ottawa Redblacks have bolstered their receiving corps by signing wide receiver Eugene Lewis . Lewis, who enjoyed a stellar season with the Edmonton Elks in 2023, racked up 74 catches for 1,070 yards and a league-leading 10 touchdowns in 18 games. His exceptional performance earned him his third All- CFL team selection. According to reports, the Redblacks were also interested in Kenny Lawler , but ultimately decided that Lewis offered better value.

It was later revealed that Lawler had reached an agreement with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Lawler, who spent the previous season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, showcased his talent with 41 receptions for 662 yards and four touchdowns. Prior to that, in 2022, he contributed 48 receptions for 844 yards and three touchdowns across 12 games, despite facing a six-game absence due to a knee injury. 'I knew coming into 2024 I was completely healthy and that, 'Listen, if y'all just give me a chance...,'' Lewis expressed to the Canadian Press last month. 'I always knew God gave me the ability to do this but sometimes it's about having people that trust you and give you the leeway to do it.' While the Redblacks made a significant addition with Lewis, they also experienced a departure as Jaelon Acklin announced his retirement. Acklin, who enjoyed a successful five-season CFL career, accumulated 319 catches for 4,186 yards and 14 touchdowns with both the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Redblacks.
