While Ottawa Redblacks QB Tyrie Adams was nicknamed Houdini for his ability to run, he\u0027d rather stand in the pocket and pass.
“If they want me to sit in the pocket and throw the ball, that’s what I’ll do,” he said. “Throwing the ball is my favourite part of the game. When I’m able to be able to not have to use my legs as much, that’s playing right into my game.
“Everybody wants to stand in the pocket, but you also have to be able to use your legs,” said Redblacks offensive co-ordinator Khari Jones. “That’s when you hit your sweet spot. I was in the same boat . I was a pocket passer who could run a bit. It comes down to when to do it and when not to do it.Article content
While Adams wants to find success with the passing game, it’s important the Redblacks balance that air attack with more of a ground game. Against the Stampeders, the Redblacks rushed just nine times; Adams carried four times for 19 yards, while De’Montre Tuggle had four carries for 19 yards and Jackson Bennett rushed once for three yards. That has to change Friday. The Redblacks need to find a way to balance their offensive game plan.
