He also formally apologized to Turning Point and other service providers for the way they learned of the transition.The OPS, located in the parking lot of Safe Harbour Society, a non-profit outreach organization in central Red Deer, will transition over the next three to six months to a mobile overdose prevention unit.

Turning Point, however, said they have been waiting to open a permanent site to better meet the community’s identified needs. Carmichael said the non-profit is still determining the full impact of a transition and the organization will continue to work closely with the province, the City of Red Deer and community partners.
