Forward Cristian Dájome was sent off the field for a red card after receiving yellow cards in the 14th and 20th minutes, forcing DC United to play a man down from there. Pedro Santos, who picked up a yellow card in the 23rd minute, scored unassisted in the fourth minute of stoppage time to send DC United into halftime with a 2-1 lead. It was the second goal this season for Santos.
Ryan Meara totaled three saves in his sixth start of the season for the Red Bulls, including the last five in a row. Meara surrendered just three goals through his first five starts.
