'Before I went on medication and started with coaching sessions, every small problem seemed insurmountable. I’d start my daily chores but stop before finishing them. I’d pick up a book, read for five minutes, then put it down. I couldn’t stay focused.'
Luann Kole has faced many challenges in her 45 years, including alcohol addiction, an abusive husband, financial trouble, divorce, and single parenthood. But nothing was tougher, she says, than living for four decades with undiagnosed attention deficit hyperactivity disorder .
I ask the group to open their workbooks and do an exercise or two related to the skill under discussion. Then I take questions and comments. I give specific advice to anyone who seems unsure about how to develop the skill, and the whole group benefits from listening in. The goal is to be as positive and as supportive as possible. Everyone in need of a boost gets it from methe other group members. Luann was great at this — extremely supportive and encouraging of other members.
I’ve even given Maddie responsibility. Somehow it had never occurred to me that a 4-year-old could dress herself. But Maddie can — and that saves me 30 minutes every morning. She may come to breakfast looking like a peacock, but she’s proud of dressing herself.People with ADHD often struggle needlessly because they haven’t learned how to plan their days. Anna Kendrick’s ‘Love Life’ Pulled From HBO Max Until It Can Return With Historical ContextLOS ANGELES—Calling the show “Important, yet problematic” in its portrayal of modern dating in New York City, HBO Max officials announced Thursday that they had pulled Anna Kendrick’s Love Life from their library until it can return with the proper historical context. “While we understand why certain people are unhappy with the decision, we feel it is important to provide viewers with pertinent information that will help contextualize Darby’s struggles with intimacy, sex, and relationships in 2019 Queens,” said HBO spokesperson Kaavya Gupta, adding that each of the romantic comedy’s 10 episodes would return with important discussions regarding era-specific terms like “fuck buddy,” “sext,” and “total derp.” “Frankly, to allow young viewers to watch Love Life without explaining how white feminism shaped our protagonist and her world as a whole would pretend the problems with this show never existed in the first place. Perhaps, when it returns, families will be able to watch this series with their children and teach them about how fraught dating as a millennial in the digital age really was.” At press time, Gupta told reporters that HBO Max had also denounced problematic depictions in the streaming service’s other shows such as Friends and The Big Bang Theory.
