Kevin Tuerff was stranded in Gander, N.L. when his flight was re-directed on 9/11. Mac and Nellie Moss are the locals who welcomed him.
An American man will reunite in Vancouver this week with the Canadian family that hosted him when his plane was re-directed to Newfoundland on the morning of the 9/11 attacks in New York City.
“I look to them for inspiration,” said Tuerff, who is in town for a book tour. “It’s just who they are.” Each year, he’s made a practice of closing down his office for a day, giving each of his employees a $100 bill and ordering them to go out and perform an act of kindness for a stranger. The tradition has continued for more than a decade.
He speaks of returning to Gander in 2016 and meeting a Syrian refugee family that Moss and his church had adopted.
