Donna Gilhooly, the co-chair of the Carousel Restoration Committee, stands in front of the now-operational carousel.
The RCMP Musical Ride made a quick stop in Thunder Bay, Ont., last weekend to ride the Chippewa Park C.W. Parker Carousel. They were invited by The Friends of Chippewa Park and the city’s parks and open spaces department to inspect the newly-restored carousel horses and give their seal of approval.
"You want to keep it here in the community, you want it to be running and you want people to value it. But most of all, you want kids to get on the horses and have fun." Gilhooly added that the Friends of Chippewa also hope to raise funds to fix the park's other attractions. "It's accessible and it's not that far of a drive to come and ride the ride," said Liddicoat. "Of course, that would be nice for sure, and they're all kid-friendly too, right? I would like them to stay open and be able to use them."Const. Andy LeClair – originally from Prince Edward Island, Charlottetown – rode on the carousel. He said launching the reopening brought him back many years, and he has many hopes for the ride going forward.
