The revelations came as MPs continue to probe the extent to which Chinese-state meddling is holding back members of Parliament from doing their jobs.
The government is now promising to work with the Opposition parties to chart a path forward and figure out who could be appointed with unanimous support to continue the work.
David Morrison, now the deputy foreign minister, said while the focus has been on MPs, the greatest long-term threat is actually how“These diaspora members are in my view, the most vulnerable populations when it comes to China’s interference in Canada,” he said. Morrison said the July 2021 memo was created to generate a broad awareness of the issue, and he read it — and commissioned a followup report asking for more information — in August of 2021.
