'Now is not the time,' says Jobs Minister and two-term MLA Ravi Kahlon.
He endorsed fellow MLA David Eby for the job, encouraging him to seek the leadership. “David is someone who I admire, someone with integrity, passion and is the right person to be our next …” he said.
Ravi’s announcement still leaves many potential candidates who have yet to divulge their plans. Potential successors include: Eby, Health Minister Adrian Dix, Finance Minister Selena Robinson; Municipal Affairs Minister Nathan Cullen, and Infrastructure Minister Bowinn Ma. Attorney General Eby, who has been in charge of several high profile portfolios including reforming the Insurance Corp. of B.C., launching a public inquiry into money laundering, and housing, is widely considered to be the front runner.
When asked last week at an unrelated news conference, Eby said: “I’ll obviously be having conversations with my family, with my friends and my colleagues, with the party, with British Columbians about how we move forward together.” Horgan announced last Tuesday that he will not run in the next provincial election, citing health concerns. He plans to step down in the fall following a leadership race. He will stay on as MLA for Langford-Juan de Luca until the next election.
