“They can struggle for many years and still be at or near capacity in attendance,” Kaplan says.

The attendance for Sunday’s game against the New York Knicks at Scotiabank Arena was announced at 19,261, the first time this season the Raptors did not have a full house. Capacity is 19,800.

“It’s the winning and the losing, of course, but also how the team itself is inspiring fans or not,” he says. “I don’t think this team captures the imagination of fans like the one of three or four years ago. It doesn’t have the same pizzazz, the same fire and the same grit. The Raptors’ brand is also strong, said Cary Kaplan, the president of Cosmos Sports and Entertainment.
