ARLINGTON — The Rangers have been once around their star-studded renovated rotation and the leader in innings pitched is … Dane Dunning? Dunning, displaced by...

. His last start of the spring, against the Chicago Cubs, in which he allowed eight hits and five runs in 4.2 innings left him frustrated.

He has struggled to get his delivery in a line to home plate and it’s left him lacking in fastball command. “My fastball location hasn’t been very good,” Heaney said. “And that’s trickled into everything else. If you aren’t [commanding the fastball], you are kind of in a situation where what can you do to get guys out?”

On Tuesday, he allowed a two-run double to Cedric Mullins in the second, and two batters later, a three-run homer to Ryan Mountcastle with two outs. He got ahead of Mountcastle with a slider over the heart of the plate, but then left a fastball up. Mountcastle poked it off the right field foul pole. He allowed two more extra-base hits in the third, including another two-out homer to No. 8 hitter Jorge Mateo on a golfed slider before Bochy summoned his staff workhorse: Dane Dunning.
