Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued rainfall warnings for Metro Vancouver, coastal BC and Vancouver Island, with up to 100 millimetres expected in some areas.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued rainfall warnings for parts of Metro Vancouver, coastal British Columbia and Vancouver Island, with heavy rain forecast for Monday. The warnings cover Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, the North Shore, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge and Howe Sound, as well as the central coast, Kitimat and western Vancouver Island.

Rainfall Totals Across Metro Vancouver

In Metro Vancouver, the rain is expected to begin Monday evening and ease Tuesday afternoon. Totals are expected to range between 50 and 70 millimetres.

The weather agency warned that water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. It said there may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic.

Drivers are advised not to drive through flooded roadways and to allow extra time for travel. The agency also urged people to watch for washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

Vancouver Island and Central Coast Forecast

On Vancouver Island, the precipitation will start late Monday morning and last until Tuesday morning. Up to 100 millimetres will fall, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Further north, 100 millimetres are predicted to fall near the ocean on the central coast, with up to 50 millimetres inland.

The rainfall warnings are part of a broader system affecting coastal British Columbia, including Kitimat and western Vancouver Island.

Drier Conditions Expected for the Weekend

After a wet start to the week, conditions are expected to be warm and sunny for British Columbia's South Coast heading into the weekend.

The forecast shift follows the heavy rain, which could bring localized flooding and travel disruptions in the affected regions. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from Environment and Climate Change Canada as the system moves through.

The warnings remain in effect for the listed areas, and further advisories may be issued if conditions change.
