About five millimetres of rain is expected in Greater Victoria, while the west Island north of Tofino could receive upward of 50 mm.
Much-needed rain is in the Vancouver Island forecast through Wednesday, but there is not likely to be enough precipitation to have a big impact on the dry conditions and wildfire risk.
“There’s definitely a gradient from northwest to southeast,” said Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon. “Obviously, any rain is really welcomed, but what we have to consider is that Vancouver Island as a whole has been in drought-like conditions for quite some time now,” she said. “We just want to encourage everyone to remain very aware of what they’re doing when they’re out in the backcountry.”Richardson said the B.C. Day long weekend saw several fire starts on the north Island after lightning went through the area.
