Rain is not stopping people from participating in a longstanding San Antonio tradition of camping at local parks for Easter weekend.
“I came out here around seven in the morning. As I was setting up it started pouring on me,” Robert Perez, a camper said.“Last year, we were in a different spot. There was just no shade,” Perez said.“On the weekend, I will have my sister-in-law, my wife, our children, spend the day with the family. That’s really what it’s all about,” Perez said.
It’s the second year his family will participate in the San Antonio tradition of camping at a park for Easter.“We make the most of it and it’s the time we are all together,” Perez said.“People will be allowed to camp overnight on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. People can enjoy their days at the park.
Park officials say during last year’s Easter weekend, visitors disposed of 19 tons of trash and five tons of recycling in Brackenridge Park alone.
