Raid in Wikwemkoong nets drugs, cash and a loaded handgun
An Aug. 3 drug raid in Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory led to the arrest of four people and the seizure of more than 200 grams of illicit drugs and a loaded handgun.
The execution of a search warrant at a residence on Genevieve Street was conducted just before midnight on Aug. 3 by the Ontario Provincial Police Community Street Crime Unit , OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit , OPP Crisis Negotiation Team, OPP North East Emergency Response Team , and OPP North East Provincial Liaison Team in conjunction with Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service and United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police Service .
“A search of the residence led to the seizure of over 175 grams of suspected crack cocaine, over 90 grams of suspected Fentanyl, and over 14 grams of suspected cocaine,” an OPP news release states. “The estimated street value of the drugs seized is over $64,000. Police also located over $22,000 in Canadian currency, a loaded handgun and ammunition.
The accused was held for bail court, then released with a new scheduled date to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory on Sept. 5.The accused was held in custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
